Dressmaking Project
Skillshare International Botswana vocational centre at Dukwi is one of only two vocational training centres that provide dress-making skills training in the Tutume sub District region of Botswana. From 2011 to 2015 Skillshare produced 55 dressmaking graduates. In 2014, Skillshare invited all the graduates to form a production group to enable them to participate in school uniforms production.
Project Progress
Fourteen women showed interest. They went through a vigorous practical interview where sample were taken from 3 shops and each person was asked to produce to match the quality. A group leader was chosen among them. They were awarded a tender worth P27, 000.00.to produce school uniform for Dukwi Primary School. Each of them received P1, 928.57.
After the tender group members got encouraged and started making items for individuals at individual capacity such as church uniform preschool uniform, etc. One of them produce have clients that they are servicing on regular basis. One of the group members was requested to assist beneficiaries of the Poverty Eradication Project in Mosetse village to manufacture uniform. The group has graduated from producing only primary school uniform. For 2018, they have produced uniforms for both primary and secondary school.
In 2016, Skillshare International Botswana received donations from the New Zealand Embassy with the project named Practice Makes Perfect. The funds were used to renovate the sewing classrooms the cutting room. Furniture (4 cutting tables, 16 bar stools were bought for the lecture room and 11 industrial machines, 1 domestic sewing machines, 1 domestic overlocker and 1 over locker were fitted in the sewing room. In addition, 1 industrial iron, steam presser, two standing mirrors, two fitting dummies, and materials were supplied through the project. Materials for practical were bought. Skillshare International Botswana forged relationship with Out Of School Department under the Ministry Of Education. Under this partnership, Skillshare provided training to a group of 12 women. The objective of the training was to provide the women with dressmaking skills to enable them to improve quality of their products. They were also trained in leadership skills.

I trained in dressmaking under Skillshare International Botswana in 2012 and graduated with a Trade Test C practical qualification in Dressmaking.
I would like to thank Skillshare International Botswana for having provided me the opportunity to study which has helped me to provide for my family and a skill that I can use wherever I will be in the future.
